Statement from Tripp Adams

“Today, after careful consideration, I am suspending my campaign for Congress in Michigan’s 10th District to step back and prioritize my mental health.

“I remain deeply committed to the belief that Michigan’s 10th District deserves strong representation that will fight for all of us in Macomb and Oakland Counties. With deep regret, I have concluded that I am not in a position to serve as that representative at this time.

“Throughout my life, I have been committed to serving others — from my time in the US Navy, Army National Guard, and Army Reserves, to my work advocating for our Veterans and communities. While this service has been the greatest honor of my life, I must acknowledge that it has also taken a significant personal toll on me and my family.

“As a longtime advocate for Veterans’ mental health, I feel compelled to speak openly about my struggles. I have witnessed the devastating impact of mental health challenges in our Veteran community — losing friends to both combat and suicide. My participation in the efforts to evacuate our Afghan allies in the wake of the withdrawal from Afghanistan also weighs heavily on me. Despite not being a combat veteran, these experiences have profoundly affected my mental health. And yet, I have felt shame and embarrassment in acknowledging these struggles.

“I broke down recently when it became too much. That’s when I realized that addressing my struggles now is the only way I can continue fighting for others in the future.

“By sharing my story, I hope to encourage other Veterans and Frontline Civilians to seek the mental health support they deserve without stigma or shame. We must continue advocating for comprehensive mental health resources for our Veterans, Frontline Civilians, and all Americans.

“To any Veteran or Frontline Civilian who may be struggling, please know that help is available. Please, call a friend, call 988, or visit VA.gov/find-locations to find your nearest VA health center. You are worth it.

“While I am stepping back from this campaign, my commitment to our community remains unwavering. I will continue to advocate for the issues that matter most to our district and work to ensure that we elect a strong Democratic representative for Michigan’s 10th District next November.

“To every person who supported me in my decision to run, thank you for your support and understanding.”
